It is so hard to believe that we got married 25 years ago, May 26th. We are at dinner here in York, NY. I would have NEVER predicted that my hair would be longer than it was on our wedding day, that Nathan would be totally bald, that we would have had three children, or that we'd spend our 25th in NY.

Sonic HedgeHog Gene and KIRA?

Kira is going to have a busy and fun summer chasing down information about this Gene at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN this summer. This sounds like a very fun and challenging summer for our girl. Congrats on your Internship Kira!

How Shh Got its Name--Sonic hedgehog is, in fact, named after the character from the popular Sega Genesis video game. The original hedgehog gene was found in Drosophila and was named for the appearance of the mutant phenotype which causes an embryo to be covered with pointy denticles resembling a hedgehog. The first two homologues of hedgehog were named after species of hedgehog and the third was named after the video game character (Gilbert, 2000).
What is Sonic Hedgehog?
Sonic Hedgehog is one of three homologues found in vertebrates. The hedgehog family consists of sonic hedgehog (shh), desert hedgehog (dhh), and indian hedgehog (ihh). Shh is the most common of the three and is therefore the best documented (Gilbert, 2000). Shh is made in the notochord of developing embryos. Winter Running

Okay, as ambivilent as I have grown about this town, I have to say, because there is nothing else AT ALL to do here, I have maintained a fitness routine. Even so much as running quite faithfully all winter in all conditions. Blaaaaaaa. Rapid City take me home!!!!

I have had this photo and I just remembered to post it. This is my Going Away Gift from Oto. Gareth, one of the oto crew who has since depated, was came to us via South Africa and was freaked out that we were moving to the "snow belt". Well after some talking, hashing, maneuvering, scheming, etc my dear friend Shelley Witt managed to get YOHO "branded" with the Logo. (No mean feat). Then after another huge effort the YOHO was shipped to us here in Geneseo, where it now has a place of honor in my office. Now do not tell facilities services, as I am most likely in violation of several rules, but there it is, on my office wall. THANK YOU ALL in Oto. The card and greetings were so sweet and I miss you all.

Once we were up on that railroad tressel, Nathan looked down and from then on, he was in trouble. I forgot how bad his fear of heights can be! It was kind of a long way down.....
