Hiking Bright Angel where it was COLD!

About the first three miles into the Canyon we had snow and had to use ice points or crampons on our shoes. After the three mile point, the snow was gone and the trail was dirt. We went one more mile before we had to turn around and hike back up the 4 miles. It was much harder going back up! The whole trip took from 10 am to about 3:50 pm. We started late because the air temp was -10 at the top, so we waited for it to warm up a bit. By the time we got into the canyon it was about 25 degrees and we were HOT from hiking!

Help my sister is trying to Hug me.

Poor Kira, she was always such a good "big sister" letting Trevor play with her barbies, her ponies, yada yada. This is the thanks she gets. He won't even mug for a photo with her.

Players

Trevor and Company. This is Trevor with the student director, Connor Creagan, AFTER his performance in Geneseo Central's production of LOVE, DEATH and the PROM. The play was a series of vignettes about High School Life. He of course played a football hero, named "Mark" and a Cad, named "Don". He is our hero/cad every day and we love him!

Me and my shadow...

Memorial day weekend in a rainy Rapid City. My sister had her granddaughters for the weekend. This is my great-niece, Morgan, who became my buddy and literally followed me everywhere. Ohhhh it was so cute! I will probably have to return to my Black Hills in a few weeks.

Linda and Nathan 25 Years.

It is so hard to believe that we got married 25 years ago, May 26th. We are at dinner here in York, NY. I would have NEVER predicted that my hair would be longer than it was on our wedding day, that Nathan would be totally bald, that we would have had three children, or that we'd spend our 25th in NY.

Sonic HedgeHog Gene and KIRA?

Kira is going to have a busy and fun summer chasing down information about this Gene at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN this summer. This sounds like a very fun and challenging summer for our girl. Congrats on your Internship Kira!

How Shh Got its Name--Sonic hedgehog is, in fact, named after the character from the popular Sega Genesis video game. The original hedgehog gene was found in Drosophila and was named for the appearance of the mutant phenotype which causes an embryo to be covered with pointy denticles resembling a hedgehog. The first two homologues of hedgehog were named after species of hedgehog and the third was named after the video game character (Gilbert, 2000).
What is Sonic Hedgehog?
Sonic Hedgehog is one of three homologues found in vertebrates. The hedgehog family consists of sonic hedgehog (shh), desert hedgehog (dhh), and indian hedgehog (ihh). Shh is the most common of the three and is therefore the best documented (Gilbert, 2000). Shh is made in the notochord of developing embryos. This important protein has many functions throughout the life of the organisms in which it is expressed. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bio.davidson.edu/Courses/Molbio/MolStudents/spring2003/Watson/shh1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bio.davidson.edu/Courses/Molbio/MolStudents/spring2003/Watson/Sonichedgehog.htm&usg=__Ud7LkOlyLgM9m2D-zxRb0OZ3LGI=&h=350&w=337&sz=36&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=fsmGtV4VwvllkM:&tbnh=120&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsonic%2Bhedgehog%2Bgene%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7GFRD%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1http://.

Doggin it in the am

Well, you can see how exciting the life of a college professor is! These darn dogs think they own the bed. I'm lucky to carve out a place. Nathan took this photo as proof. One might think that a guy would fight for his place in the bedroom, but 'taint so. Dogs rule, men drool.
